The polygon mirror is the main part of the printer. It consists of a hexagonal mirror mounted on a BLDC motor as well as a three phase driver IC. My particular model uses 24V as a supply voltage and 5V logic level, although it’s yet untested wether 3.3v work too. When providing power, pulling MOT_ON low and applying a clock signal ranging between 100 – 1000 Hz , the motor starts to spin.

Laser
Laser printing is an electrostatic digital printing process. It produces high-quality text and graphics (and moderate-quality photographs) by repeatedly passing a laser beam back and forth over a negatively charged cylinder called a “drum” to define a differentially charged image. The drum then selectively collects electrically charged powdered ink (toner), and transfers the image to paper, which is then heated in order to permanently fuse the text, imagery, or both, to the paper.

Transfer Unit
The transfer unit is the part of the laser printing process that is responsible for transferring the image on the page before it goes through the fusing unit. Transfer units do eventually wear out and need to be replaced after an extended period of use.

Imaging Unit
The imaging drum is the heart of the laser printer or the copier. It transfers the print image, consisting of toner, onto the paper. An imaging drum is also called OPC, imaging unit or just drum by some manufacturers. A dirty or worn out drum reduces extremely the printing quality of a laser printer.

Rolling Rubbers
Printer rollers are the small circular rubber pieces that help feed printer paper through your printer. Over time, they can accumulate dust from the paper and ink residue from printing double-sided pages. This will help fix most paper-feeding problems with your printer.

Fuser Unit
The fuser unit or fuser assembly, is a critical component of your laser printer. Using pressure and heat, it fuses the toner powder onto the page to create a print, and without out it, your printer cannot operate.
